Though my headline may suggest otherwise, the actual content of the book is interesting. The myths and legends of Japan can be enthralling to study but I suggest you look elsewhere for them. This book is only 60 pages long, so don't expect to get much detail or study out of it. It only covers about 15 stories of the past, and not in great detail. I wish I had had some inclination of this before I bought the book so I could have looked elsewhere, but all of the other reviews were shining for some reason. I wanted there to be more legends and with more meat on the bones. The book is also riddled with typos and poor grammar to boot. All of this makes me wonder if the content of the book is even accurately researched. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. But you can win by not purchasing this book.
How cool is this read! I knew so little about Japanese mythology, and it's SO interesting! I love how the books trigger list making for me. Lists of topics to research for more understanding. Every time I read one of Clayton's books, I hope for more! This book is certainly the case. I can't wait for more!
I really enjoyed this book on Japanese Mythology. I found these tales from Japan very interesting. I didn't know anything about the Myths of Japan. I would highly recommend this book who would like to learn about Japanese Myths. I found this book easy to read and understand.

The book talks about the earliest books of myths. I think it would have been a good idea for the book to have covered how all this mythology led to the Japanese involvement in World War II and their fanatical belief that Japan would survive. Even the kamikaze were part of this, believing that their souls, upon their death in glorious battle, would return to the Yasakuni shrine in Japan where they would become gods.
This is a fascinating book on Japanese Mythology. I would highly recommend this book for those who would love and understand Japanese Mythology. The book was easy to read and understand. It takes you to another world to understand all aspects of their culture.
