My children loved this story.

At this point, the Legends of the World Series is rather like an old friend...we can almost always count on our experience being pleasant, informative and fun...and that is the case with The Gift of the Nile: An Ancient Egyptian Legend. This time out we are introduced to Mutenwia a girl given to the Pharaoh by her father, as a gift. Though she is plain, she is honest and kind and soon becomes the Pharaoh's closest friend and advisor. Over time, she becomes terribly homesick and tells the Pharaoh of this. He is deeply hurt that he misses her old life more than she has missed him while he is away...he also begins to find it hard to be happy and enjoy life without Mutenwia as part of it and asks his Magician for counsel. The legend goes on and ultimately Pharaoh confesses to her that she is his truest friend and confidant and he cannot bear for her to leave, as a compromise, he gives her the freedom wants and grants her a home near the palace so that they might forever be close to one another.Overall, the Gift of the Nile: An Ancient Egyptian Legend reminds me very much of Muti's Necklace (with minor variations). While I enjoyed Muti's strong character, this version is, I think closer to the traditional version. The illustrations are about par for the course for this series and far less lush and vivid than in Muti's Necklace, but still quite nice, though the lack of mouths throughout was somewhat distressing and eyes were either depicted as slits or fish (a little strange)...I'm not sure what the author/illustrator hoped to convey with these visuals. I give it four stars, it's a lovely story and the illustrations match the text quite well, but it's not as engaging as some of the others in this series have been. One final note, each book in this series comes with a one page summary of the legend, including other names it's been called and a bit about the history how the story developed and what its significance is, so you don't just get the story...you get the context as well! This is something that I really enjoy in this series and it's one of the reasons that I recommend it.

my mother bought me this book from a school book order form when i was in 3rd grade- it become one of my very favourite books as a child, and i still own it to this day. it helped cement my love of ancient history, ancient egypt in particular. i love how the illustrations are a take on hieroglyphs, and the story is told in the almost formal way that hieroglyphs read in ancient egyptian. if you have a little budding history buff, i can't recommend this book enough.

this is a great childrens book. the illustrations by charles reasoner are also great. if you have children this is a book that you will want to buy. this is also a great story on friendship.

My 75 year old Grandma just loves word search puzzles. She calls them her "brain exercises". However she has a little difficulty seeing all those little letters as she has gotten older. I bought her The Everything Large-Print Bible Word Search Book and in return she mailed me a $50 check and told me to buy her every large print word search "the Amazon" had. I would say it's a smash hit for her! I think if you're looking for a gift from a grandmother or grandfather you can't go wrong with one of these books. They're easy to read and provide enough challenge that they'll enjoy doing them.

We bought this for my husband's mother who has Alzheimer's. She has only a few beloved games she likes and remembers how to play. She has been doing word searches recently. Although she may not know what the words mean, she likes to find and match them! Hopefully, any mind strengthening she can do will help slow down the Alzheimer's progression! She loves the Bible version since much of that is still familiar to her.

I am going broke behind this book! lol... I bought the first of these books for my mother-in-law who has to sit in the lobby for hours while my father-in-law gets his dialysis treatment. She loves it... a great way to occupy her time. My aunt saw the book, so I had to buy one for her. Someone saw her book, and I had to buy 2 more. My last order was $45 of these Bible Word Search books. lol... To the author, keep new volumes coming. As long as the little old ladies request them, I will keep buying them.

I purchased this for my grandmother while she was in the hospital and she absolutely loves it. In the back are Bible verses which is a fun addition to the word search. Great price for a product that will be used and enjoyed for a while!

I purchased this for my 80 year old grandmother. She is happy with it so far. My only concern was that it drew from multiple bibles rather than picking just one. However, it was well written and easy to read.

Great book! I purchased for a Christmas gift and I am very pleased. There are different puzzles with different themes there are scriptures to match those themes. I'm very pleased with the font size as well.

Kind of cumbersome as the book is BIG, but otherwise a great source and fun as well as beneficial. Great way to be "In the Word and learn along the way with exercising the brain.

I gave this book five stars because it's just what it should be. Unfortunately it was too difficult for my memory impaired relative. She just couldn't remember what she was supposed to do. :( Not the fault of the compilers -- next time I'll try something easier.

Even though it only ran for one season, the show had several memorable episodes that warrant mention. The television show Thriller with Boris Karloff as host also strangely gets short shrift while episode after episode of Tales From the Crypt is discussed.Aside from that, the book does discuss a lot of interesting programs from throughout the years and offers some suggestions that I will certainly look into.

This book resurrected great TV memories, especially from some of the late (and much lamented) Rod Serling shows The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery. You can tell by the reviews that this is preaching to the choir.Let's just be thankful that president Bush's religion--which is better and stronger than yours, by the way--doesn't promise virgins in heaven for those who commit suicide. Then again, if it did, we'd be on a level playing field with the bad guys, wouldn't we?

As the author so vividly points out, it's not religion, but FAITH which is the most dangerous component in society. His diatribes are meaty and relentless, yet the juggernaut slows towards the end where he explores mysticism as a viable alternative to dogma. It seemed as if an all-out frontal assault dug in for a holding action. Nonetheless, he scores a number of impressive points whilst examining the retardant effects religion has on knowledge & culture throughout history--and especially TODAY.

How I wish that this book had been available 40 years ago when I was having doubts about my faith in middle school. To have known that there were so many others like myself who did not put constraints upon their questioning would have been so incredibly liberating and saved me from an additional 10 years of slipping, sliding and unguided pointless research. To be sure, the search continues, but on far sturdier ground.It cannot be overstated the liberating effect of Harris' constant calling out of the incredulousness of the magical and completely unverifiable claims of millennia old religions. Also refreshing is to bring in some history about how those claims have been used to justify some of humanity's most problematic traits like racism, mob violence, misogyny and the like. He makes the important observation that in no other spheres of life do we rely on millennia old knowledge. To truly live as Jesus would have, try using 2000 year old medicine, or dress in the same cloth, or grow your food the same way, or travel the same way, (we could go on).Once, in a family discussion (argument) about the merits of allowing the teaching of 'intelligent design' in public schools on the basis of being 'fair and balanced', I allowed that would be acceptable when Sunday schools, in the spirit of reciprocity, would be mandated to also teach evolution. I now have another book I'd like to bring to both classes - The End of Faith!! May I live so long to see the day (sigh).In a different direction, an eye opener for me was Harris' pointed confrontation of the Islamic faith. On that score, he almost becomes an ally of my, mostly right-wing - gun friendly - soldiers for the Christian faith - friends and family. I wouldn't be surprised if some would complain by claiming that he is in some way possibly racially or tribally prejudiced, but it seems to me that this is simply going after the 'low hanging fruit' that is in our headlines almost daily. He makes a telling point that we don't see many Christian suicide bombers. And so, rather than relying on dusty history to make the point of how religious faith might have been abused in the, possibly irrelevant past, he brings it into the present day where it can't be as easily denied. (I wish he would have turned his sharp mind against the modern day faith healers like Benny Hinn and his ilk.)Highly stimulating and highly recommended!

Sam Harris's brilliant argument against dogmatism and religious moderates isn't only effective regarding religion, it's effective regarding any issue in life. Follow the evidence, use the methods of science to find what is objectively true, and make your decision based on what is true. Giving credence and respect to beliefs with no evidence is something that our society needs to do away with. Feelings aren't facts and Sam makes that point in a calm yet forceful argument.

Once I discovered Ayn Rand's writings in the mid-1980s, I realized that my efforts had been a total waste of time. After a lifetime of having religious idiocy imposed on me from every corner of society, at age 70 I'm now done being silent, patient and respectful of that which is clearly mankind's biggest self-imposed fraud. Rand observed that "faith is belief in the absence of reason"; Sam Harris has eloquently and thoroughly explained why, and it's time humanity woke up from its supernatural stupor and gave all religion the boot worldwide.

It is a bold approach to tackling the issue of religious doctrines and how they affect their followers beliefs and actions. Sam Harris puts it all on the table and pulls no punches as he compares modern educated reasoning to the thoughts and philosophies of the authors of such doctrines espoused thousands of years ago and still blindly followed today. A person who is a firm believer of their doctrine of choice will not find this book comforting and will most likey call Dr. Harris the devil. A person who has serious concerns about following any of these doctrines will most likely come away from this book with further insight and common sense information to objectively look at the subject with a descerning eye. As Dr. Harris so clearly points out, we demand objective proof in almost anything we do or accept in our lives before we take action on it, except when it comes to religious faith... there it seems people are willing to follow their doctrine off the proverbial cliff with no questions asked. I commend Dr. Harris on his work and gumption to put it out there. I would highly recommend the book to anyone with a penchant for learning and truth when it comes how they should live their life.

About the Author

Nikola Tesla was born in Croatia in 1856. He emigrated to the United States in 1884 and worked for a short time for Thomas Edison. I am very disappointed it this book about Nikola Tesla, as it only talks about his research into electricity.

I enjoyed the book, I found it fascinating that he essentially created simulations of his creations in his mind like we do on computers now! I am particularly impressed by the engineering spirit and how sincere this talented person expresses himself to timeless readership.Thank you! =) A++

This book is amazing at diving into the mind of Nicola Tesla in his own words. The illustrations are his works also. The man was brilliant even compared to todays standard of education. With that being said, unless you have a good understanding of electrical engineering this book my be a little to complicated. The contents of this book are the lectures giving by Nicola Tesla to groups of engineers. So that would be the intended audience of this work. And that should be known up front as I have shown some of the drawings to seasoned elctricains and they where baffled at his wiring illustrations.

This is a very detailed technical writing of Tesla's major inventions, and it was published in 1894 by Electrical Engineer Magazine. If you want to really dig into the essence of Tesla's inventions this is an good source. So is "The Complete Patents of Nikola Tesla" ISBN 1-56619-266-8 published 1994. The number of contributions he made to technology is incredible! This man was truly amazing and probably the greatest genius of all time. It's too bad he was such an eccentric and failed to share more of his work with his peers. Had this happened our world would probably be far more advanced technologically. But the works he did share drastically changed the world for the better. He is finally beginning to get the credit he is due. If he could have appropriately financed his endeavors, there is no telling what might have transpired.

I am involved with the Tesla Museum project on Long Island. These items were helpful in understanding the man. Thank you.

Good documentary resource, many people are learning about his technology, if these thing had only been employed at the time of there discovery the world would be very, very different. His main discovery was how to use what is called "dark matter" to produce electricity.
